Woodkirk takes to the slopes again

Ski Trip Sestriere Italy

2019 took the Academy by surprise when the ski trip's location, for the very first time, was in Europe - as opposed to our usual destinations in the USA.

This naturally forced the trip to go at February half-term rather than the usual Easter break. The journey was unusually short! Departing from Manchester, flying to Milan with a few hours on the coach and we arrived for the evening meal in Sestriere the same day!

From the hotel window the stunning mountain back drop was only a stone-throw away. We were fortunate to have our hotel based at the foot of the slopes. Most of our party were beginners, this year, and the weather was perfect for them - never a cloud in the ski with wall-to-wall-sunshine, and cold enough to keep the snow in great condition.

With 6 days of amazing skiing at all levels, and evening activities, which included ice skating on the lake, sledging, and swimming in the outdoor heated pool, created the foundations of one of our best ski trips to-date.

Our final evening saw the ski trip end on a high: our fancy dress party which took place in a local venue. Our students had invited their ski instructors and the evening was full of laughter, karaoke and dancing - this was the icing on the cake to an amazing week.

Shaping Young Lives is the Academy’s vision, and February half term in Sestriere, Italy, certainly contributed to this for the 54 students across all year groups.

One student, Kira in year 11, who has been on a number of the school ski trips said: “Miss, this has been the best trip so far, thank you!"
