For the last few weeks, Year 9 and Year 10 students have been taking part in The Duke of Edinburgh's Award (DofE) in Dewsbury and Penistone.
Despite the increased restrictions, we successfully managed to provide this fantastic opportunity for students to complete their Bronze award! Students completed their first practice walk and camp in Dewsbury, where they finished in good time. The Students completed their practice expedition with lots to reflect on in preparation for their assessed expedition in Penistone. The following weekend came, and so did the Penistone expedition.
Students set-out in their own groups, using their mapping, navigation skills and previous experience to make it past a series of staffed checkpoints on route to camp. There, students had to muster their energy to pitch their own tents and cook food. In the morning, students were up early and cooking their own breakfast before heading out for the last leg of their expedition. It was a wet walk, with heavy rain, but students pressed on to complete the Award!
