App-a-thon Guinness World Record

Woodkirk Academy is representing Leeds schools for the Guinness World Record attempt for the largest number of people simultaneously learning to code an Android app. The event is being run by BCSWomen, part of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. The record attempt is being held on Saturday 13 June 2015 in a number of locations across the UK, including here at Woodkirk. Students will be taught how to build Android apps using MIT AppInventor. The day will include a mixture of talks, activities and hands-on coding. The event aims to break the record, but also to encourage young people to consider a career in IT.

Mr White says “I am very proud of our students and staff who will be attempting this prestigious world record. Computing and IT are shaping the future of our society and so this is an excellent opportunity for Woodkirk’s students to learn new skills as part of the broad enrichment programme on offer at the Academy.”
