Students at Woodkirk Academy spent the summer term learning about studying Science at university and applications of Science in the real world.
A group of year 10 students spent two weeks learning about electrochemistry and investigating which part of a chilli is the hottest before presenting their work to a group of Oxford University academics.
Woodkirk Academy has recently become a partner school to Leeds University engineering department. Students from years 9-12 participated in the first of a series of workshops run by Leeds University engineering department to learn how they can use their scientific skills to design objects that improve people's lives.
Finally, a team of year 7 and 8 students won the KS3 Golden Bunsen science competition at Temple Moor High School while our year 10 students achieved joint second place in the KS4 category.
